Natural Deodorant Recipe
We’ve made our opinions of natural deodorant quite clear here at Procoal. We love it so and want everyone to use it! Having said this we also wanted to show you all how to make your own homemade natural deodorant. So if that sounds like something you would love to give a go? Take a look at our super easy and effective DIY recipe for natural deodorant!
NATURAL DEODORANT INGREDIENTS
90g of arrowroot powder/ cornstarch
30g baking soda
4-6 tbsp melted coconut oil
METHOD
Combine baking soda and arrowroot powder or cornstarch.
Add four tablespoons of melted coconut oil and mix it into the dry ingredients using a fork. Continue adding the coconut oil until the mixture has reached your preferred consistency. We recommend you have it look more like a thick balm as it is easier to apply and store.
Finally add the mixture into a jar with an air tight fitting lid.
And there you have it, your very own DIY natural deodorant.
ADDITIONAL INGREDIENTS
This is the very basic recipe and it can be easily changed or added to depending on your personal preferences. If you like your deodorant to have a scent you can always add 2-3 drops of essential oils into the melted coconut oil before combining it into the baking soda and cornstarch mix. Lavender is a fabulous essential oil to try and also rosemary will be a great more masculine scent. Essential oils are a great natural way to add fragrance to a product without affected the formula and also won’t cause any irritation to the skin with any nasty, hidden chemicals.
If you find your underarms are very sensitive and dry you can also add 3 tablespoons of shea butter to the recipe. Shea butter is wonderfully nourishing product and will be a fantastic addition to the recipe for added moisture.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
The reason the recipe calls for baking soda is because it is terribly effective at absorbing all types of moisture, including sweat. It will help to keep your underarms dry without clogging your pores. It’s also great at killing off the bacteria that is on your skin that is usually the cause of body odour. The cornstarch/arrowroot powder also works at trapping any moisture, great for keeping those unsightly underarm sweat patches at bay!
Finally, the coconut oil not only makes the DIY product easier to apply, it also moisturises the underarm skin. Armpits experience a number of irritates throughout the day and so the soothing coconut oil will really help combat any shaving rash or irritation you may be experiencing.
Making a DIY natural deodorant is great idea and also makes for an excellent gift. However the cost of getting the ingredients and glass jar could become slightly on the expensive side, with the product perhaps not lasting for a long time before going off and becoming unusable.
Having said this, Procoal’s activated charcoal natural deodorant balm is made using a recipe extremely similar to the one shown above. With a number of other natural and beneficial ingredients thrown in for good measure, including the activated charcoal which will detoxify your underarms of any toxins in the body.
So you are very welcome to use the recipe and make your own, or you can take a look at ours, seeing as we’ve done all the hard work for you and give it a try!
