How to do a DIY at-home spa treatment
This can feel like a funny time of year, Christmas spirit is a distant memory, we survived a year long January and Spring is peaking it’s way through those black rain clouds.
You can be forgiven for feeling a little down the in the dumps and in need of an indulgent afternoon of spa treatments, there is however, one problem… Valentine’s Day.. yep, so finding availability at your favourite spa is a long shot… Having said this, you can achieve a wonderful spa like atmosphere in the comfort of your own home. Here are some tips and tricks to make your bedroom, or bathroom a tad more zen.
Pick a room
Be it in the bathroom, bedroom or living room. Decide on a room you are most comfortable in and can truly relax. Yes, admittedly the bathroom is easier to clean, however resting on the bed will be super relaxing. At the end of the day it is really all down to you!
Set the scene
Spas always smell so incredible when you step into them, this is mainly down to the room scents and candles they use to get the atmosphere just right. Lavender, chamomile and eucalyptus, these scents are great options for the best at home spa treatments as it will really set the scene. You will also find that popping on a cosy dressing gown and slippers will add to the at home spa feel.
Before you start your DIY spa treatments, it is also a great idea to take a seat with some herbal tea and relax, leave your phone in another room and just focus on completely calming down the body and mind, ready for your treatments.
When life gives you lemons..
Use them for at home spa recipes! Lemon and honey patted under the eyes on dark circles are a fantastic natural way of brightening the under eyes. You can also rub the lemons onto your knees and elbows, the acid in lemons help with those drier areas on the body too. Of course, we can’t forget about the great benefits of drinking warm lemon water, with it able to speed up metabolism and recharging the body without any redefined sugar.
Face steams
Boil a kettle and leave it to cool for 5 minutes, next pour the water into a bowl and add two drops of an essential oil, lavender is a good option for this. Then pour in the contents of a herbal tea bag, the scent of the herbs and flowers will add a touch of luxury. Lean over the mixture in the bowl and drape a towel over your head. The steam from the water will open your pores and drain the skin, prepping it for the other treatments you plan to apply afterwards. You can give yourself a facial at home with great ease and see some noticeable results. Don’t forget to mix up the which essential oils and herbal tea you use.
Grab your blender
By all means make a tasty green smoothie, but I actually meant use your blender to make a DIY face spa at home. Pour in some cold cream, yogurt, honey, avocado and Aloe Vera gel and blitz it into a smooth face mask you can then apply onto the skin. Wait for it to dry and rinse off with warm water. For a deep cleansing facial at home, be sure to apply the face mask after your facial steam, this will help the ingredients to work further down in the skin.
You can also use your blend to make some at home hair masks using eggs and avocados, high moisturising for the hair without leaving it weighed down and greasy. However if you don’t fancy making up your own recipe, then we strongly recommend giving our hydrating sheet mask a try.
Take a bath
I know this is may seem a little obvious, but taking a bath full of Epson salts, bubbles and many other lotion and potions will result in you having a body spa at home. Much like the facial steam, having a warm bath will open the pores and so anything you apply to the body after will work quicker too, let’s not forget just how wonderful a relaxing bath can be too.
Get scrubbing
This may be an old wife’s tale, but I believe it works. Take some coffee granules, the same that goes into your morning coffee and mix it with some soft brown sugar and there you have a body scrub that won’t be abrasive to the skin and will battle against cellulite giving the body a boost and aid good blood circulation. It will also buff away any dead skin cells or build up leaving the skin looking flawless and vibrant.
Heat things up
Putting your body lotion onto a radiator before you get into the bath will result in your lotion taking on a totally new texture, making it extremely soothing to apply all over the body with the fact it is warm adding to the at home spa feel.
There you have a number of ways on giving you the best at home spa treatments that won’t break the bank and will give you a relaxing spa feeling in your front room! The perfect pick me up for the seasonal confusion we are experiences at the moment. Trying out these will have you fully prepared for the beginning of Spring.
