How to take care of your skin after a day in the sun
Reaching for a bottle of after sun once you are back in your hotel room after a long day in the sun on holiday goes without saying. Yet this is a different story once we are at home living our busy lives. Surprisingly, the sun is still around and can get quite warm, so it is still advisable to keep safe in the sun with daily use of sunscreen.
We also need to take care of our skin after a full day in the sun, even when you’ve used sunscreen throughout the day. Here are some quick tips on what to do when taking some extra care of your skin after a day out and about.
Cool Shower
Having a shower is the best way to rid your skin of layers of product, such as sunscreen, daily aggressors and bacteria. As tempting it will be to blast your skin with cold water, if you find you’ve caught the sun and are a little sunburnt the extra cold water can be very painful! Sun brunt skin needs to be cooled, but not frozen so try a cool water shower, or maybe a short soak in the bath. Without the extreme temperature drop you will find your skin can recover and recoup a lot quicker.
Moisturise
No, you may not be on holiday, but you can still use after sun for a helping hand in taking care of your skin after exposure to the sun’s rays. If you prefer not to use after sun, then a light liquid moisturiser will work just as well. Be sure to opt for a light weight formula to aid hydration and moisture without trapping in any remaining heat to the skin under a thick, cream-based moisturiser. This will not only feel uncomfortable, but the skin won’t have a chance to breath which could result in becoming overheated and damaged.
Exfoliate
Before we get started on this tip just wanted to clarify that if you have in fact burnt your skin, please step away from the scrub. With your skin already being damaged and sensitive from exposure to too much of the sun’s UV rays it’s best not to exfoliate as the damage to your skin cells will get into the deeper layers of your skin which can result in long term damage and premature aging.
If however, you have managed to stay safe in the sun without burning it’s a great idea to get a light exfoliating scrub, such as our Activated Charcoal Face Scrub, to rid your skin of any sunscreen residue or build-up of daily aggressors and bacteria that can make it’s way into your pores and develop into black heads, blemishes and spots! Not only that, you will find you develop your sun kissed glow quicker!
Drink water
No matter how long we stay out during the day, it still has a dehydrating effect on the skin so drinking enough water whilst out in the sun as well as afterwards is very important to recover the water lost from a day of fun in the sunshine.
By not drinking enough you will find your skin on your body and your face will feel tight and uncomfortable and look crepey with an overall aged appearance.
Hydrate
This final tip connects well to the one previously mentioned of upkeeping your water intake. Our Marine Moisture Mask is packed with deep marine fements that deliver a boost of powerful antioxidants which help to fight the signs of aging, usually sped up by exposure to UVA and UVB rays. Using a sheet mask is the quickest way of absorbing a power blend of ingredients to balance and restore the skin’s water levels and nourish whilst smoothing out the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
So there you have some quick, sure tips that will help you take care of your skin after a day in the sun, whether you are aboard or at home with this simple advice you will have the peace of mind that your skin will stay safe and look its best.
